Overview

We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Software Engineer. The key activity will address the design and development of software solutions for processing and high-content analysis of biological cell images, including data extraction and management, according to the standards related to medical software. The work will be carried out in Bologna.

FUNCTIONS
• Design, test and validate analytical software for cell analysis integrating image processing algorithms
• Define overall software architecture based on existing products, libraries and components to support image analysis and data management
• Design GUIs for scientific use and medical use
• Implement data and image management solutions, supporting data storage, data mining, seamless integration with analytical software and web-based interfacing
• Develop software modules according to medical software standards and the IVD directives
• Manage software development lifecycle from collection of software requirements, to versioning, definition of roadmaps, bug tracking, validation plans
• Collaborate with other engineers to integrate analytical software with image acquisition software
• Collaborate with biologists to customize software functions and validate the software on real experimental cases
• Work effectively in multifaceted team including multi-discipline engineering, computational sciences and biology

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master degree in Computer Science or equivalent discipline
• Minimum 3-5 years experience in relevant fields
• Image processing experience
• Programming experience on Labview, C/C++/C#, .NET
• Experience on database design/management
• Experience with web programming (PHP, HTML, CSS, MySQL, Javascript)
• Good-to-excellent knowledge of English language (written and spoken) is essential
• Good verbal and written communication skills are highly desirable

PREFERRED SKILLS
• Experience on analysis of biological cell images is highly preferred
• Experience on management of complex software projects/architectures with integration of multiple products, modules and libraries is highly preferred
• Experience with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL is highly preferred
• Knowledge of software life cycle process standards (IEC 62304) and of quality system regulations (21 CFR part 820 and ISO 13485) is highly preferred
• Experience on use of LabView for lab/test automation is a plus
• Experience or demonstrable ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams is preferred
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is an important skill
